Karin F. Avery

Ms. Avery grew up in Michigan, where she attended Alma College, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 1987.  She attended the University of Detroit School of Law, graduating summa cum laude in 1991.  She was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 1991, admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan in 1992, and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in 2006.  She is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts in the Western District of Michigan and the Eastern District of Michigan.

Ms. Avery’s practice has focused on bankruptcy, creditors’ rights and insolvency matters, including related commercial transactions and related litigation.  She has represented debtors, creditors, creditors’ committees, bankruptcy trustees, receivers, lending institutions and certified classes in bankruptcy cases.  She has also represented defendants in preference and fraudulent conveyance litigation and other types of interested parties in bankruptcy proceedings, out-of-court transactions and debt restructuring.

Ms. Avery is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Federal Bar Association.  She has attended more than a dozen seminars on matters related to creditor rights issues, both under bankruptcy law and Michigan law.
